OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

INTRODUCTION:

Technology, along with changing political and economic conditions, has prompted an era of globalization in which companies compete worldwide for increasingly diverse markets. Today, strategic operations are recognized as indispensable to ensure the competitiveness of U.S. companies. Additionally, the increasing importance of the service sector in the U.S. economy has underscored the need to provide outstanding customer service while controlling costs. Judicious operations management is required to deal with these challenges. Operations is a major function of an organization and it accounts for the majority of the workforce. Moreover, it permeates all other functions of an organization such as marketing, human resources, accounting, and finance.

Equipped with OM skills, students will be more marketable to seek jobs in an area expected to have well above average growth. Indeed, OM has the highest annual number of managerial openings in Missouri (http://www.missourieconomy.org).
